About myself:  I'm a mum, a globetrotter, a believer in science and a fashionista.

 

Current research interests:

  • medical/health law (medical liability, patient safety, genetics, reproductive issues, pharma law, consumer law)
  • digital law (private data, AI, algorithms, digital governance)
  • fundamental rights / human rights

 

 

 

Vera Lúcia Raposo has a law degree, a postgraduate degree in medical law, a master’s in legal-political sciences and a doctorate in legal-political sciences, granted by the Faculty of Law of Coimbra University, Portugal (FDUC).

Currently she is Assistant Professor at FDUC. In the past she lectured at the University of Macau, China and at Agostinho Neto University, in Angola, and she was of counsel at the Vieira de Almeida e Associados office, in Lisbon, in the area of health law.

She is the author of several studies in Portuguese, English and Spanish (some translated into Chinese), in particular on biomedical law (medical liability, patient safety, gene editing, reproductive issues) and new technologies (digital governance, data protection, AI, algorithms).

1998/1999       Participation in the ERASMUS project, at the Faculty of Law of La Sapienza University, Rome. Courses: Philosophy of the Law (30/30); European Law (30/30): Comparative Constitutional Law (30 cum laude/ 30)

June 2002       Master degree on Juridical-Political Sciences, FDUC. Thesis: “Eve’s Power: The equality principle in the field of political rights; questions merged from affirmative action” (17/20)

2000/2002       Internship course at the Portuguese Bar Association, to be qualified to practice law

2002/ 2003      Post-Graduation in Medical Law, in the Institute of Medical Law, FDUC

2003/2004       Admission in the PhD program of FDUC. Presentation of the thesis project: reproductive rights in the access to assisted reproduction techniques and the in vitro embryo’s status

2012                Public examination for the Doctorate with the thesis: “Right to Immortality – The Exercise of Reproductive Rights through Techniques of Assisted Reproduction and the Juridical Status of In Vitro Embryos”. Award of the Juris Doctor grade.
